Why I Can't Wait for an Alcohol-Free 2025
It dawned on me last night that 2025 will without a doubt be the first year of my adult life completely alcohol-free. What!!!! 🥰🥰🥰
I got it almost perfect in 2024…
I made the decision to release alcohol from my life in March, but had 2 “data points” aka slips since then, and I’m really proud of the progress I’ve made. (Most people who quit drinking have several “day ones!”) Getting it perfect from the jump is unrealistic when quitting a highly addictive substance after 20 years of use, even for someone who is only a gray area drink and not truly addicted.
(I don’t say this with the intention of giving anyone permission to have a slip, I’m just speaking my truth.)
I share my alcohol story for those feeling stuck where I was - struggling to cut back or moderate alcohol.. sick of their own shit. Anxious and finding themself in a confusing, sometimes-there/sometimes-not problematic relationship with their drinking. My heart goes out to you, friend. I know how hard that is, and I empathize with you deeply. I was stuck in that shitty purgatory for years. Hang in there… change is possible.
This year was full huge life-shattering changes for me, both externally and internally. The big, scary events I worried would break me—and cause me to return to using alcohol to (unhelpfully) cope—have past. Life will always have challenges but there’s nothing that could happen in 2025 that would make me turn to alcohol. 🙌🏻
Because drinking doesn’t make anything better. It’s just fake, dopamine-spiked pleasure, borrowed from tomorrow’s real happiness.
I am so fucking excited for an entire year (and beyond) of complete clarity, authentic connections, intentionality, living in alignment, crushing goals, feeling 100% all the damn time, no hanxiety, no hangovers, no shame/guilt/regret and MORE LIFE… in Full HD.
“Raw dogging life” is intense, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Even when it hurts! Because you simply cannot numb the bad without also numbing the good. Read that again if you need to…
(No judgment towards anyone who drinks, I recognize not everyone has the same experience with alcohol. Everyone should do what works for them.)
If you are sober-curious and ready to take a break, or make a change, let’s chat. I’m here to help you figure it out.
Rooting for you always,
Gretchen
